Academy of Business & Finance

Melbourne High School’s Academy of Business & Finance is a joint venture with the Melbourne Regional Chamber of East Central Florida.  In addition to required courses, students participate in the Academy of Business & Finance benefit from leadership and career development activities sponsored by business partners. These include field trips to banks, brokerage houses, insurance companies, accounting firms, government agencies, and to finance-related departments within local industry. Guest speakers from the financial services industry are included in the curriculum, and a mentoring and career-shadowing program has been implemented. Our local Toastmasters help Sophomore students to develop the communication skills that industry tells us are so lacking in today’s employee pool. Executive Internships are required of all Academy graduates. Graduates will have the opportunity to qualify for all available state-funded scholarships through their Academy program.

Local business partners are an integral part of every facet of this program. They not only provide paid executive internships and business mentors for individual students, but also provide immediate enrichment of coursework through guest speakers, hosting field trips to their workplaces, career shadowing and leadership training.

The Academy of Business & Finance at Melbourne High School is a member program of the National Academy Foundation (NAF), based in New York City. Since 1982, the Academy of Finance has addressed the needs of the financial services industry by providing high school students throughout the nation with the education required for success in this dynamic field. NAF encourages and supports partnerships between business and education, with the stated goal of strengthening the preparedness of the American workforce.
